Business owners, in all industries, should be diligent in providing a safe work environment for their employees. To help you in this effort, the State of Nevada has an entire division devoted to jobsite safety training and consultation: Nevada Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS).
The mission of SCATS is to help employers identify potential safety hazards and take corrective action before an injury occurs. And, provide training to employees and employers on a wide range of topics, for virtually all types of industries. Free classes are provided on topics ranging from asbestos awareness to written workplace safety programs. In addition, SCATS provides OSHA 10 and 30 courses for construction and general industry employees.
Onsite consultation is also part of the free services offered to business owners. The results of these onsite inspections are not shared with OSHA, allowing employers to take corrective action without fear of OSHA fines.
In addition to the wealth of services offered by SCATS also consider contacting your NV workers compensation insurance carrier. Every reputable workers compensation provider will offer free safety training and loss control services to their customers. It is their best interests (and yours) to try and prevent employee injuries from occuring. Below are links to the loss control departments of the workers compensation carriers we represent:
