Why All Nevada Residents Should Purchase Life Insurance

Life Insurance?  Don’t need it: I’m young, healthy and ready to set the world on fire! This is often the answer when I ask people about their life insurance.   First and foremost the best answer I have is that it is the most valuable asset you can have whether or not you are starting a family or at the end of your earning years.   Some people find that the easiest way to deal with it is to not do it and keep praying that it doesn’t happen to them.   It’s not if, it’s when.

Starting in the life insurance industry in Las Vegas Nevada when I was a young divorced mother of two I cast my line into the waters of something I knew nothing about.    I started with Prudential Financial in 1980 when life was so much simpler.  I learned to ask people questions and dig deeper into what situation they would find themselves in they didn’t have a backup plan.   I know now after having been in the business   for 31 years and discussing this with hundreds of people that you need to plan for the worst possible event that IS going to happen – the death of your spouse or you.

I did have an insurance policy for my husband at the time, a huge $5000 policy.  What were we thinking?  We obviously were not thinking.  My agent at the time didn’t explain to me that I needed more now and went about the business of giving me a policy to cover my funeral.   If my husband died how would I take care of my two daughters?   How would I pay my mortgage, car payment, take care of the kids and the rest of the bills? It wasn’t until then that the reality really hit home.  I purchased a policy for $250,000 to protect my children for the risk of me not being there for them.

The point is, get your life insurance now, stop procrastinating, it’s an everlasting problem for most people and it doesn’t get less expensive and it never goes away.   There are different types of life insurance to customize to each families situation.  It’s really not that hard to figure out.  I’ll outline some different types in my next article.
